The Southern Empress

Built in 1983 in a Mississippi shipyard, the 131-foot paddle-wheeler was cut into sections, then transported by 27 semi trucks to the captive waters of Lake Conroe, at Seven Coves. There the craft was reassembled and finishing touches were added. It was then launched as one of the lake’s most recognizable icons.

The Southern Empress has been featured in many blogs and magazines. The Empress hosts private and public cruises year round; from the annual Fourth of July cruise to company Christmas parties.

We had a Wonderful Time on the Southern Empress Cruise celebrating my mother's 75th birthday! Overlook the aesthetics(boat needs some update), and capture the beautiful water scenery and the ambience, take lots of pictures, bring games, and dance the night away, just like we did, the DJ did a great job, the bartender was very nice, Barbara was super nice and Captain Kirk..(I think was his name) was great! - 7/07/2025

Dinner cruise: food was good. & had good service, live entertainment would have been better than having a DJ, need more benches/seating on decks for elder & those that have mobility issues. There was no seating on the decks except high bar stools - 7/06/2025

I live on Lake Conroe and see the Southern Empress on the lake all the time, but had never been on it until our neighborhood booked a private event for the celebration of Harbour Town's 50th anniversary. Everyone had a wonderful time during our private cruise on Lake Conroe. The crew was helpful and friendly throughout our time on the lake! The ornate wood carving interior and lead glass doors are beautiful. You must ask about the history of the paddleboat and how it got to Lake Conroe, it is fascinating. I cannot wait to go on the Southern Empress again and it's so affordable. It's a food, fun and drinks all on the water!! - 7/05/2025

We purchased a Groupon and they wouldn't let us redeem it. They supposedly didn't have any available dates and then tried to charge us and extra $120+ Now we have to fight with Groupon to try and get a refund. I would avoid this place and the bait and switch scam they are running. There are plenty of other fun experiences to explore...But absolutely pass on this one. - 7/04/2025

The staff was incredibly welcoming, and the MM crew went above and beyond to make the experience unforgettable. Barry and Windy Storm were true standouts—absolutely amazing in every way—and the bartender made everyone feel right at home with her warm and friendly demeanor. If I had one small critique, it would be the talent show segment. While the concept was great, it came across more as a filler to allow guests to complete their guesses, but since everyone was focused on watching the acts, that time wasn’t really used as intended. It might be better to use that window to let guests relax, dance upstairs, or enjoy the lake views a little more. Overall, though, it was an incredible experience—highly recommended! - 6/29/2025

Great sunset dinner cruise throughout Lake Conroe. Food was excellent, and so were the cocktails with cash bar. Three decks to relax and take in the view. Excellent service. Stayed at nearby hotel since it wraps up at 10 pm. Would definitely return. - 6/29/2025

I was excited to have a different date night. But when we got on the boat, the excitement quickly went away. When we walked on, we instantly regretted it and actually thought about leaving within a matter of minutes, which we probably should have. There was water leaking from the ceiling and walls from the rain and random buckets all over the floor, which was also a tripping hazard. There was mold all over, and we just felt nasty. When we were finally able to sit at our table, the curtains were dripping wet, the floor was rotted, and there were bugs crawling on the table cloths. Not to mention the first course, a salad, had been sitting out so long the vegetables were wilted and we were scared to eat it. The show may have been fun, but we couldn't hear anything, so we couldn't engage and lost interest. Needless to say, we will not he back, and this was a waste of nearly $300... for the money they charge, they should be able to keep the boat in better conditions. I'm surprised it hasn't been condemned... Don't waste your money on this. - 6/16/2025

We've been onboard a couple times and they've always been very accommodating to our dietary restrictions, have had great dancing, and our friends and I have always had a great time and we've made some great memories. If you haven't gone on it before, highly recommend checking them out. Good drinks and food and great staff. - 6/16/2025

Had a blast and the food was great. Especially loved the edible flowers. The Captain and the crew were really cool and enjoyed their company. Me and my wife just got married the day of the cruise and really enjoyed the trip. The only downside was getting off the boat - 6/02/2025
