The San Jacinto watershed above Lake Conroe was deluged the last 2 rains (including last night(5/1/24) for an estimated 19+ inches. Although the SJRA balanced the rising lake level and the inflow of water fairly easily from April 30 until last night’s huge downpour, there is now much more water flowing into the lake than being released through the dam. As the lake continues to rise to levels that will cause flooding of some businesses and residences, our neighborhoods downstream, such as Kingwood will immediately blame Lake Conroe for the flooding they are sure to experience. They will ignore science and facts and even common sense. If more water is flowing into Lake Conroe than is being released over the dam, Lake Conroe is helping to reduce their flooding potential even though it is not a flood control lake.
I am posting this to prepare our Lake Conroe visitors and residents for the same old whining from Kingwood politicians and residents that our lake is the cause of all their problems. Maybe next time SJRA should keep the lake at normal level throughout the whole event and let the river flow as it would without Lake Conroe. I truly hope someone to the south of us can see the illogical excuse using Lake Conroe as the culprit is. Not holding my breath for that to happen.
