GREAT. Water stained; 50 degrees; 0.58 feet above pool. The latest freeze brought water temperatures on the main lake to just under 50 degrees, and as low as 46 degrees back in the creeks. The cold has bait balled up tight and nearly all predator fish will be close by. Eater sized catfish have been good on baited holes in creeks and main lake on ledges and structure on catfish Bubblegum, liver, shad and punch bait. Drifting has been good as well for trophy cats as well as eaters on cut and live natural bait. Hybrids can usually be found in or near these large schools of shad and be caught primarily dead sticking live shad or bright artificial baits. With the heavy rains this week look for excess debris floating around especially in the creeks. Report by Brad Doyle, Bradley’s Guide Service. The bass bite is good between fronts. They can be targeted deep as well as shallow this time of year because the water temperature is tolerable all over the lake and the water is enriched with oxygen from top to bottom. The fish are beginning to be in transition so lures that can cover some area like medium-running crankbaits, rattletraps, Quake 70 blue back, and spinners will produce strikes. Changing to a lighter line can give your lure a little more action and varying your retrieve speed can let your lure work to attract more fish. The backs of creeks and coves are off colored from run-off now but the shallows around vegetation and lay downs can be good on sunny warmer days with soft plastics. Spots to target now can include rip rap, structure around main lake points, steep drop offs, road beds or railroad and gravel bars. Report by Bryan Brawner, Lake Conroe Charters. Crappie bite has improved on structure in 10-23 feet of water using hair jigs from Lone Star Crappie Jigs and Stunna jigs. Some anglers are finding fish in the shallows, or staging near creeks. Always wear your life jacket. Report by Mike Cason, Fishical Therapy Lake Conroe Guide.
