GREAT. Water stained; 50 degrees; 0.35 feet below pool. Catfish continue to be great. Quality eater sized fish and some trophy class fish being caught on baited holes with catfish bubblegum, liver, and punch bait. Trophy blues have been pretty plentiful drifting live and fresh cutbait from 10-50 feet of water. With a water temp of 56 before the freeze the shad have bunched up. Hybrids are doing well on live shad, deadsticking, and jigging in or around the large schools of bait. Be especially careful and wear your life jackets in this cold weather! Your abilities to swim will be greatly reduced in this weather. Report by Brad Doyle, Bradley’s Guide Service. The bass bite is currently fair. Focus on shallow areas with structure, using jigs, crankbaits, and spinners under 6 feet deep. Large man-made structures under 14 feet can also hold good fish, try bass jigs and spinners here. For deeper water, target black bass chasing shad around drop-offs with crankbaits. In shallows with a warm up, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, and worms can entice bites. Pitching jigs with crawfish trailers near docks, bulkheads, and brush close to deeper water can be another successful strategy. Remember, the water is stained, so adjust lure colors accordingly. Report by Bryan Brawner, Lake Conroe Charters. Crappie bite has improved on structure in 10-23 feet of water using hair jigs from Lone Star Crappie Jigs and Stunna jigs. Some anglers are finding fish in the shallows, or staging near creeks. Always wear your life jacket. Report by Mike Cason, Fishical Therapy Lake Conroe Guide.
