Storms pushed through from Montgomery County into Harris County before weakening. More storms are possible tonight.

HOUSTON — The threat for isolated storms is in the forecast Sunday, and because some of them could become serious in a hurry, the KHOU 11 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert.

According to meteorologist Pat Cavlin, there’s no guarantee we’ll have storms, but if we do see them, they could become severe, with the main threat being very large hail.  We could also see wind damage or even an isolated tornado.

Active watches and warnings:

  • A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for much of Southeast Texas, including Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Austin, Waller, San Jacinto, Liberty, Washington, Grimes, Walker, Trinity and Polk counties until 10 p.m.
  • A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for SE Montgomery County, north-central Harris County until 5 p.m.

The timing on the storms is primarily 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

So, what should you do now?  First, make sure you have the KHOU 11 app downloaded with alerts turned on. We’ll send you notifications if severe weather threatens your location.  Also, make sure you have a spot to put your vehicle in the event of hail.

Also, heads up if you have any respiratory sensitivity concerns, today is an Ozone Action Day for Harris, Brazoria, and Galveston counties. Unhealthy levels of ozone will be at the surface and could cause some issues for folks with respiratory medical conditions. Limit time outdoors during the warmest part of the day.

After the severe threat on Sunday, weather will turn quiet for the start of next week. Expect mainly sunny skies with hot weather Monday and Tuesday with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s. Isolated shower or storm chances may return for the middle of the week but no big rain chances are on the horizon for the next week.
