In just his third professional season, Drew Romo continues working towards the ultimate goal of cracking a major league roster.
Romo, a 2020 graduate of The Woodlands High School and former No. 35 pick of the Colorado Rockies that summer, has spent the entire 2023 season so far at Double-A Hartford.
The standout catcher has appeared in 57 games for the Yard Goats through Wednesday and is slashing .236/.320/.401 with an OPS of .676.
With six home runs on the season, Romo has already tied his career high set in the 2021 season while playing at the Single-A level.
Romo has 26 RBIs on the season and 14 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles.
Behind the plate, Romo was one of the best defensive catchers to come through Montgomery County as a high school player.
Romo has cut down 19 runners trying to steal this season, just six behind the career-high of 25 he set in 2021. He has a .974 fielding percentage with 33 assists.
In two-and-a-half minor league seasons, Romo is batting .271 with 17 homers and 133 RBIs.
At the beginning of the 2023 season, MLB.com considered Romo its No. 4 top prospect with the Rockies and No. 84 overall prospect in MLB.

His minor league career high in strikeouts was 118 set last season in 112 innings.
Austin Briggs (Conroe) has pitched 23 innings for Oakland’s Double-A Midland this season. The 29th round pick in 2018 has allowed 16 earned runs while striking out 32, matching his 2022 total. Hitters are averaging .247 against Briggs this season.
In the Texas Collegiate League, Casey Sunseri (The Woodlands) leads the Brazos Valley Bombers with 49 hits, 20 more than his next teammate. Sunseri, who plays for Baylor, has 16 RBIs and also leads the Bombers with 14 stolen bases.d
