New Orleans, Louisiana:
It was the biggest game of the season that pitted the AFC Champions and Super Bowl 58 Champions Kansas City Chiefs against the tough gritty NFC Champions the Philadelphia Eagles. Also, two young talented starting quarterbacks in the game grew up in Texas and had their skills developed in our Great State.
Although the Chiefs were favored, the Eagles soared with their tremendously fierce defense that controlled the Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Philadelphia Eagles became the Super Bowl Champions by demolishing the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.
Do not let the score fool you, the Chiefs did not get on the scoreboard until the third quarter with a field goal and they put up sixteen (16) in the fourth quarter.
Many fans were getting agitated by having to see Pop Star Taylor Swift doing a high five when the Chiefs would score along with the controversial favorable referee’s calls throughout the season, and the arrogance of some of the players on the team. Not to be overdramatic, but it is written in Proverbs16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
The bottom line is that Nick Sirianni, the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagle, took over in 2021 and brought discipline and a system that lifted this team to new heights. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was a force throughout the game throwing for seventeen (17) attempts for twenty-two (22) completions for two hundred and twenty-one (221) yards with two (2) touchdowns and one (1) interception. He added a new dimension with his running ability rushing for seventy-two (72) yards on eleven (11) attempts and a rushing score. He was clearly the Most Valuable Player in the game, and he received the honor. The Eagles newest addition, running back Saquon Barkley made his presence known as he contributed ninety-seven (97) all purpose yards with rushing and receptions. The Eagles’ receiving duo of DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown both had beautiful touchdown receptions including a perfect strike to Smith for a forty-six (46) yard touchdown. The pair had seven (7) receptions and had a hundred and eleven (111) yards between the pair. The play that completely shifted the momentum in the Eagles’ favor was when Eagles’ rookie defensive back Cooper De Jean made an interception from Mahomes and took it to the house for a twenty-seven (27) yard touchdown. It was the best birthday gift he could have ever received in his lifetime. Josh Sweat put pressure on Kansas City with two and half (2.5) sacks. Interesting fact, every Eagles’ defensive player got a tackle.
Patrick Mahomes finished the day with twenty-one (21) completions on thirty-two (32) attempts for two hundred and fifty-seven (257) yards, but the two (2) interceptions were the difference. It was the worst game that he played this season. Ex-Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins had two (2) receptions and got his first Super bowl touchdown.
Congratulations to everyone that made it to the big game and to the victors. There are always lessons to be learned, wisdom to internalize and skills to be refined. See you next season!
