Some days we have big stories to share, and some days lots of news tidbits – today is the latter.
Rotary Club of Conroe Past President Ron Saikowski will be working with Rotarian Suann Hereford (of The East Montgomery County Rotary Club), Executive Director of The Montgomery County Heritage Museum, to create a Rotary Exhibit at the museum in 2024. What a wonderful idea! Wouldn’t it be awesome if all five of our Montgomery County Rotary Clubs worked together on this project? The history of Rotary in this county is long and strong and filled with so many amazing projects and milestones. Memory Park! I Like Me Books! The Spelling Bee! The Woodlands Wine Dinner! The Pollinator Garden! The list goes on and on. I nominate Ron to chair that project and bring the clubs together for this – are ya up for that Ron?
Suann reminded us that “My Dad, Charles Hereford, was the “tooth fairy” in the Conroe Rotary Club for many years. In fact, he received the Rotarian of the Year award from the Club for his work. He worked with local dentists to provide dental care for children in the community. We would love to have a Rotary exhibit at the museum in the summer of 2024.”
From the Lake Conroe Club, President Robert recently announced that RCLC, in conjunction with Robert’s neighbors, donated a total of 177 pound of food to The Montgomery County Food Bank recently. That equates to 145 hardy meals for those in need. Great job Rotarians.
Lake Conroe Rotarian and Memory Park Chair Charlie Parada announced that the recent rains have really helped Memory Park return to its beautiful green and glorious self and brought the water level in Memory Pond back up too. Hallelujah!
Speaking of Memory Park, there’s a wonderful new area in the park, the Bonnie J Scott Garden, donated in honor of Bonnie by her children, Jim Scott and Pat and Terri Jaggers. Be sure you stop by and see it on your next stroll through.
RCLC Polio Chair Mike Berger announced that there have been no – zero, naught, none – new cases of Polio worldwide in the last two weeks. Such fabulous news as we inch closer and closer to a world without Polio. I always have to qualify that statement by adding that for decades after the last case, we will still have people suffering from Post Polio Syndrome, which appears years later as people who had Polio early in life age and their immune systems break down. But the end of Polio begins with no new cases. Won’t that be A Beautiful Thing?
