The week of July 17 thru 20, 2025, found the Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, hosting the General 130th Sons of Confederate Veterans Reunion in Houston, hundreds of SCV members attended. Two members of the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs 2523 Conroe Chapter of the Texas Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy attended. Those ladies from the Stubbs chapter were Iva Gilliam (not pictured) and Eva Rains, Renee Mauch (pictured above is a former member of the Stubbs chapter). Ms. Mauch was a member of the Stubbs chapter for many years and served as President for two terms. She lives in Arkansas and holds the office of President with the Hot Springs 80 Chapter in Hot Springs. Her husband
Loy Mauch is a member of the James M. Keller 648 Camp of the Arkansas Division SCV.
There were daily meetings and luncheons, with award banquets held in the evening for the SCV. Various authors attended, two of them being James Ronald Kennedy and Walter Donald Kennedy. Another well known attendee was Mrs. Barbara G. Marthal, she is of Africian descent, who holds seminars for grades K-12 on storytelling, literature and music. She holds several education degrees and is an active member of the Tennessee Society Order of Confederate Rose and Confederate Belles.
But a very interesting subject she spoke to us about was…she portrays in first person, her great, great, great grandmother, Julia Eagan, who was married to Amon Eagan on November 3, 1865 in Wilson County, Tennessee. Thru stories that Ms. Marthal tells, she focuses on the history of that time of the War between the States.
Other UDC chapters attending were Mollie Moore Davis 217 Tyler, from that chapter were Patty Williams, President of the chapter & District VIII Chairman and Tamil Hurley, who serves as the chapter Chaplain and is the Third Vice President of General with the UDC in Richmond, Virginia. The Rebel Joan of Arc 2721 The Woodlands Chapter also attended, Evelyn Miller and Anita Stevens were present.
Bringing greetings from the United Daughters of the Confederacy to the SCV Reunion was, Mrs. Julia N. Hardaway, President General of the UDC in Richmond, Virginia. She is a very interesting lady to visit with and was pleased to meet so many ladies from the Texas Division. It just so happens that the General UDC Convention will be held in Houston this November.
The objectives of the UDC are…Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial, and Patriotic.
