STUBBS CHAPTER MEMBERS ATTEND MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE and DEDICATION OF THE LINE

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, hundreds of people gathered at the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park in Conroe, Texas, to honor those men and women who died serving their country. The event was presented by the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission.
Two members of the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs 2523 Conroe Chaper, Texas Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy attended this event, they were…Kathryn Jones and Eva Rains. Chapter member, the late Pat Spackey was one given special honor, during “In Memoriam”, she was known as the “Flag Lady”.
Memorial Day dates back as far as the War Between the States, it officially became a national holiday in 1971. Memorial Day is the day we honor all of those who didn’t come home. Memorial Day recognizes all fallen men and women, who were fighting for ALL the U. S. military branches.
The event followed the program with… introductions of special guests, presenting the colors, pledges to the flags and a cannon salute.
There were prayers given, a special swearing in of
U. S. recruits, an interesting history of the American flag was given, the Gettysburg Address was read by Lou Driver, a member of the Buffalo Soldier National Museum and the Travis Letter was read.
Beautiful patriotic music was provided by the Montgomery County Choral Society, Debbie Glenn sang the “The Star-Spangled Banner”, she is a member of Southern Disposition and James Silva, a recent vocal performance graduate sang
“Ava Maria”, a lone bagpiper played Amazing Grace as he walked away thru the crowd and then TAPS was sounded.
A very impressive flyover was performed by the Commermorative Air Force Gulf Coast Wing. Hands could be seen over their heart of those watching, viewing the planes coming from a distance and then flying directly back over those attending. As they turned around, it was truly a solemn moment, when the one plane breaks formation and flys off.
It was a good day to honor those who had served their country.
