During the 15th anniversary season, the organizers of Stage Right of Texas theater group are bringing back the group’s first show from 2008.

The Jamie Wooten, Jessie Jones and Nicholas Hope play “Christmas Belles” is back at the Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe Dec. 1-17 with most of the original cast from 15 years ago.

Here are five things to know about the show.

What is ‘Christmas Belles’ about?

It’s Christmastime in the small town of Fayro, Texas, and the infamous Futrelle sisters Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye are not exactly in a festive mood.

A cranky Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of twins. Twink, recently jilted and bitter about it, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town. And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb’s Christmas program from spiraling into chaos.

Stage Right performed the show in 2008, 2010 and 2015 with most of the original cast members participating.

“It is just absolutely silly and funny and still has the Christmas story,” she said. “I think the main theme of the show is second chances, and putting the past behind you and I think everybody needs to do that sometimes.”

The cast

Cast members include Marilyn Moore as Miss Geneva Musgrove, Amy Sowers as Honey Raye Futrelle, Hallie Teague as Gina Jo (G.J.) Dubberly, Allen Dorris as John Curtis Buntner, Jennifer Hennessy as Twink Futrelle, Katt Gilcrease as Dub Dubberly, Maria Sirgo as Franie Futrelle Dubberly, Melody Montez as Rhonda Lynn Lampley, Ian Montez as Justin Waverly, Matthew Johnson as Raynerd Chisum and Wendy Albright as Patsy Price.

Just three actors are new to the roles.

“It’s like a family reunion with a few new members. We’re having a blast hanging out and cutting up,” Montez said. “We were cracking up doing the first read through.”

The crew

Stage Right board member Jennifer Bowlin is directing the show. Other crew members include stage manager Justine Gray and sound from Chelsea Johnson.

A family connection

Montez is also the executive director at the Crighton Theatre. In 2008, Montez had two young boys, Ian and Robben. When Stage Right was forming, Amy Sowers called Montez and said “we need you” for “Christmas Belles.”

She was hesitant because the boys were so young. Sowers assured her there would be someone to watch the children backstage. It was then that they got their first taste of acting and the Crighton.

Now both have been regulars in Stage Right shows and Ian plays Justin in “Christmas Belles.”
