The WOW (Women of Waterford)  Plus Book Club met once again at the home of Marie and Dave Underdown for lots of chuckles, comradery and a casual but fun discussion of our book for February “Yellow Wife-A Novel” by Sadeqa Johnson.  This historical fiction work focused on “one woman’s captivating tale of survival in the most notorious slave prison of the antebellum South.”  After a lively discussion, it was agreed that this novel shone light on things that we did not know about that occurred during the 1850s in a plantation in  Charles City, Virginia and other places in the deep south.  Joining in the discussion were WOWs Debbie Morse, Karen Dwyer, Bonnie Sohn and Marie Underdown along with “Plusses” Susan Greer and Cyndi Garner. Â
Our selection for March is another historical fiction but this one occurs at a different place and time from “Yellow Wife”. Â The book chosen was Danielle Steel’s “Flying Angels”. Â According to the book jacket, Â “Audrey Parker’s life changes forever when Pearl Harbor is attacked on December 7, 1941. Â Her brother, a talented young navy pilot, had been stationed there, poised to fulfil their late father’s distinguished legacy. Â Straight out of nursing school with a passion and a born gift of helping others, both Audrey and her friend Lizzie suddenly find their nation on the brink of war. Â Driven to do whatever they can to serve, they enlist in the army and embark on a new adventure as flight nurses.” Â Sound intriguing? Â Then pick up/borrow/download a copy and plan on joining us on Monday, March 25th at 6 pm at the Underdown home. Â We always have a great time and always welcome new members! Â See you then!
