Do you remember where you were on Tuesday, Feb. 20? I didn’t either, but when I looked at my calendar, I saw that I had a pretty busy day with appointments, meetings and card playing too. Â But what I also didn’t know at the time, was that February 20th was a National Holiday: Â National Love Your Pet Day! Â Anyone who knows me knows I don’t need a national holiday to love my pets, so hopefully I celebrated the day anyway. Here is a little background info.
According to my long time friend, Robyn Scharlach, National Love Your Pet Day is a special occasion dedicated to celebrating the bond between humans and their beloved pets.  It’s a day to shower your furry, feathered or scaly friends with love, attention and appreciation.  There are many easy and fun ways to do this, but here are some ideas to make the day special for your furry friends:
1. Â Â Quality Time: Â Spend quality time with your pets, whether it’s playing fetch, going for a long walk or simply cuddling on the couch. Â Give them your undivided attention.
2. Â Â Treats and Toys: Â Surprise your pets with their favorite treats or a new toy. Â Spoil them a little to show your love.
3. Â Â Grooming Day: Â Give your pets a spa day with a gentle bath, brushing and nail trimming. Â They’ll appreciate the pampering.
4. Â Â Adventure Outing: Â Take your dogs on an outdoor adventure to a park or trail. Â Cats can enjoy some indoor playtime with interactive toys.
5. Â Â Photo Session: Â Capture the precious moments with your pets by taking photos or creating a special pet photo album.
I have an idea! Â Since most of us missed National Love Your Pet Day, let’s just pick a day (or two, or three) next week and celebrate it then! Â I guarantee that your pet will not care WHEN you do it..any day is okay with them!Â
By the way, there is another way that you can celebrate this holiday:
6. Â Â Donate or Volunteer: Â Consider making a donation or volunteering your time to a local animal shelter or rescue organization. Â There are so many abandoned, neglected or abused animals that could really use your help. Â
