The WOW Â (Women of Waterford) Plus Book Club gathered last week at the home of Marie Underdown and we certainly did experience a lot of plusses!! Â Of course, we discussed our book of the month, The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin PLUS we enjoyed delicious munchies PLUS we imbibed in some adult beverages PLUS we caught up on what has been going on in our lives PLUS (and best of all) we had a great time just enjoying each other’s company. Â Joining me that day were WOWS Bonnie Sohn, Karen Dwyer, and Debbie Morse and Plusses Susan Greer and Terry Poole.Â
Back to the book..all of us really enjoyed this novel. Â According to the book cover: Â “August 1939: Â London prepares for war as Hitler’s forces sweep across Europe. Â Grace Bennet has always dreamed of moving to the city, but the bunkers and drawn curtains that she finds on her arrival are not what she expected. Â And she certainly never imagined she’d wind up working at Primrose Hill, a dusty old bookshop nestled in the heart of London. Â Throughout blackouts and air raids as the Blitz intensifies, Grace discovers the power of storytelling to unite her community in ways she never dreamed-a force that triumphs over even the darkest nights of the war.” Â We not only thought this book was inspiring, but we also learned many things about life in England during WWII that we did not know before. Â A good read! Â
Our book for February is entitled “Yellow Wife: A Novel” by Sadeqa Johnson.  According to Lisa Wingate, #1 New York Times bestselling author of “Before We Were Yours”:  “A fully immersive, intricately crafted story inspired by the pages of history.  In Pheby, Sadeqa Johnson has created a woman whose struggle to survive cand to protect the ones she loves will have readers turning the pages as fast as their fingers can fly.  Simply Enthralling.”Â
Sound interesting? Â If so, pick up a copy (or your Kindle) and plan on joining us.Â
