The Waterford Estates subdivision was annexed just a few years ago to the City of Conroe.  Because of this several of our residents attended the 4th annual Conroe Founder’s Day celebration on August 2nd.
This wonderful celebration started off with a Color Guard.  Waterford Estates resident David Underdown was there in full regalia, holding the Texas State Flag.  Other members of the color guard were Ed Sellards, Ethan Braxton, Loren Johnston, David Haymaker, Buddy Gurganus with the Color Guard Chairman, Douglas Collings. While they were marching, the Rolling Thunder cannon was fired!  Wow!  What a beginning!
Founder’s Day Chairwoman, Lyn Hawthorne Howard, welcomed the crowd, followed by Payton Riley leading us all in the National Anthem.  Conroe City Councilmen Harry Hardman and Howard Wood then led us all in the pledges to the American Flag and the Texas Flag and then County Judge Mark Keough gave the Invocation.
But that’s not all!  Mayor Jody Czajkoski proclaimed August 2nd Conroe Founder’s Day, Conroe’s Citizen of the Year 2022, Larry Foerster enlightened us with a brief history of the City of Conroe’s founder, Isaac Conroe,  Next, the beautiful docents, all dressed up in their period garb were introduced including Elaine Collings, Dianne Kebodeax, Evelyn Miller, Anita Stevens, Katherine Tagienti, Donna Summers and Shana Arthur.
And then Committee Member De’Andre Guin Sr., drum roll please. introduced Conroe’s 2023 Citizen of the Year, Susie Pokorski!  Congratulations, Susie!  A well deserved honor!
Many thanks to the Conroe Founder’s Day Committee and all who were involved to make this day special.
