You have less than two weeks to get your tickets for this years Walden Follies. This great organization has been a part of the Walden Community for over 40 years. The cast members are busy with their practices insuring their performances will be perfect for all attending.
A bit of Walden Follies history …Â
The Walden Follies was started as a program for the Walden Ladies Association luncheon meeting in 1982.Â
The first two shows were held at the Yacht Club, with about 50 attending. The cast members of the original Follies were the members of the Walden Ladies Tennis Team: Carolyn Wagner, Carol Caplan, (formally a Radio City Rockette), Ginnie Griffin, Judy Eichenbaum, Melody Carr, Cathy Richberg, and Karin Zurbrick. The Master of Ceremony that first year was Bob Brochstein, who owned an upscale restaurant in Conroe called The Blacksheep. The theme was built around a restaurant with all the girls having parts. Phil Griffin was the mastermind behind the production. He built the original stage, did the props and most of the backstage and crew work. He also appeared in many acts over the years.
In 1984 the Follies was growing and the show was moved to the Conference Center, which is now the M.I.S.D. building. The original kickline was started by a talented group of women, we have since added a men’s kickline to our cast. We had a large stage, lights, make-up and fancy costumes. In 1988 the Follies moved back to the Yacht Club where it has been ever since.Â
We continue to upgrade our production capability every year. The purpose of the Follies has always been to make friends among the residents and property owners of Walden and to have fun!! Our cast and crew now numbers well over 100 Walden property owners with many others working off stage. Â
Our audience is about 500-600 total over four performances. If you have never been to the Follies, you are really missing out on a fun event. All ticket holders will be delighted by a wonderful evening of entertainment which includes a gourmet meal.Â
