We were blessed with mostly dry artic temperatures this past week. I vividly remember how tough the weather was in February of 2021 with snow covering everything and lengthy power outages all over our community. We need to be thankful for not getting a repeat of those harsh conditions. I, like so many of my friends and family, have chosen to live in the south because we so seldom experience harsh winter temperatures. Some folks say that we Texans are sissies in this kind of weather. Call me a sissy if you must but as the saying goes, “Say what you want about the South but nobody retires and moves up North”. Because the week was pretty much a stay-at-home week, we sissies did very little socially.
I have mentioned so many times before that there are many different and lively groups here in Walden. One of the newest is a group of ladies calling themselves On the Rocks. This lovely group of ladies get together regularly and do all kinds of fun activities. Recently two of their members hosted a Murder Mystery in the home of Linda Sustman with the assistance of her co-heart-in-crime Brenda Badgett. They wrote a very clever script and I understand they kept everything very hush-hush until the day of the high jinks. I can’t name all the members here but there were many of the members of their group in the cast. So many suspects to consider and just who will be the victim? It turned out to be our very own Jean Hebert and she was poisoned by none other than Joanne Heitmiller. The pictures on Facebook are priceless.
Here is a “Did You Know?” fact: The San Jacinto Monument, at 567 feet, is the world’s tallest masonry column and is almost 13 feet taller than the Washington Monument. It is topped with a 220-ton star. Wow, I didn’t know that!
I recently wrote that I had the pleasure of being visited by the white pelicans that migrate here in early winter from areas up north. I usually see them once or twice during their migration pattern. Since my previous comments, those cuties have been by my window almost daily. They must have appreciated the coverage. I have certainly appreciated their ongoing visits.
Stay safe and warm folks.
