It was a fun luncheon this month, only made more fun by many of the officers, committee members and guests that were in full Madi Gras attire. We had some wonderful speakers from ING that gave a very informative presentation on Women and Wealth in Retirement.Â
Carolyn Shulman, Committee Chair for selecting this year’s Woman of the Year and her Selection Committee Brenda Badgett, Kym Harris, Kathryn Schleper, Karla Seidule and Gaby Tryon were delighted to announce the LAW Woman of the Year at this first luncheon of 2024.
I do believe that Robin Garnett was taken by surprise when Carolyn announced that she was selected for this well-deserved honor. She has served in many areas of LAW including the position of Treasurer which she held for several years and continued to assist the treasurers that followed in her footsteps. She also assisted many committees including hosting, greeting and check in at the door for many of the luncheons. Suffice it to say, she always steps up when she is called upon.
She has been involved with the Follies in various behind the scene activities over the years – all be it – she has shied away from being a star of the stage.
She has been a member of the WLGA-9 since its inception and also served in the position of Treasurer for that organization. She volunteers in many golf related fund raisers including Golfer’s Against Cancer. She also spear-headed an annual golf fund raiser benefiting the Susan B Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for many years.Â
She is always there for folks that need a helping hand or maybe just someone to listen to them during a tough time. She is truly the epidemy of the term “Good Neighbor”. Â Please congratulate her when you see her.Â
I am certain most folks are aware that there is a hard freeze predicted for the coming week. Please take time to review all the methods to prevent your pipes from freezing and possibly bursting. Being a plumber’s daughter, I was taught to always drip my indoor faucets during freezing temperatures along with many other methods to prevent damage to your home. You can find all kinds of recommendations online.Â
It is important that you keep an eye on the forecast. Even more importantly, take steps to ensure your family and your pets stay in a warm and safe environment.Â
