If you are just heading out of the house this Sunday morning and you didn’t set your clock back last night, you might find yourself a little early for church. Sit down and have a second cup of coffee knowing that, had you remembered, your extra hour could have been spent sleeping-in.
From History.com: Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars, and Veterans Day 2023 will occur on Saturday, November 11. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.”
Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all military members that have served or are still serving our country protecting our freedoms. Walden will be honoring our active-duty service members and Veterans with a complimentary brunch at the Sunday November 12th Brunch from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
Walden Community Church had a parking lot full of ghosts and goblins enjoying the Trunk-or-Treat festivities. There were also some ghouls playing games and earning treats at the Breakwater Grill. John & Gabby Tryon, Brenda & Roy Badgett helped with the “spooky” games as these WSN committee members assisted the staff of the Breakwater on Tuesday evening. There was a nice crowd of trick-or-treaters that came to be included in the fun. Special shout out to Jean Hopkins, the new assistant at the Yacht Club, for setting up all the games and the extra decorations.
There were tons of participants that attended the Scary-Oke last Friday downstairs at Walden’s Lakeview Dining & Venue. There were lots of dancing, singing and parading ghouls enjoying the party. Great costumes neighbors.
Spotlight on: Susan Harrell. She did an excellent job coordinating the Community Garage Sale.
You might want to make your reservations for the Annual Thanksgiving Day Buffet at Lakeview Dining. This is a popular event that sells out quickly. Call 936-582-4222 for reservations.
Last, not least – Way to go Rangers!
