I attended the LAW luncheon and it was a full house of ladies learning about Coco Chanel and her impact on the pearl industry. It was the second time I have had the pleasure of hearing from the global pearl producer, Mike Brennan, and he was once again very entertaining and informative. The luncheon honored Past Presidents and I was delighted to share a table with honorees, Brenda Badgett, Claire Harris, Pat Reagan, Kathryn Schleper, and Linda Sustman. The other honorees in attendance, sitting at a separate table, were Bette Garland, Susan Johnson, Caryn Patton, Jackie St. Cyr, and Janie Smith. As usual, Carolyn Shulman and her group did an outstanding job creating the centerpieces for the tables.

I would like to welcome back world travelers and fellow Waldenites, Russell & Linda Bliese, Sharon Richardson and Richard Monroe. From the pictures they have shared, they all had an awe-inspiring trip which included Santorini, Greece; the Almafi Coast of Italy and Rome where they attended the Ryder Cup competition and events.

Not to be outdone by their impressive trip to glamorous places, I got to travel with a group of Niners on their annual golf trip. We toured some exotic locations in Giddings, Bastrop and Brenham this past week. The group, lead by our travel agents Linda Sustman & Jan Cottrell included Rebecca Davis, Jeannine Dennis, Diane Feuchfinger, Bette Garland, Connie Gilmore, Wilma Goudie, Patti Kling, Kerry Moravec, Janie Ross (who impressed upon us the importance of making our beds every morning), Barbara Shepherd, Carolyn Shulman and Meredith Wedin. OMGoodness, What A Trip.

There are going to be stories about this trip amongst the Niners for years to come. Connie posted a perfect quote from Women Who Golf that summed-up our trip perfectly, “Golf is not just an exercise, it’s an adventure, a romance…a Shakespeare play in which disaster and comedy are intertwined.” Here’s my Spotlight: Patti Kling shot an 89 at Brenham Country Club. My claim to fame is after playing 36 holes, I came back with the same two golf balls I started with, ta-da.

Reminder: WCIA Board candidates will have their second forum at the Yacht Club on October 21st at 10:00AM.  You can attend or sign up to view the forum via Zoom. There are two positions open for this term.
