I am certain everyone enjoyed hearing from Sandy Barron last week. Unlike me, she is so good at writing! I thank her for sharing such an interesting article about the Spirit of America tournament. Just as an update I am pleased to report that the funds raised from sponsorships, donations, the raffle, the silent auction, and the 50/50 totaled $35,100.00.

I would now like to thank Susan Johnson for sharing the following Walden news story:

Long time Walden resident and beloved community member, Jackie St Cyr was honored by the Assistance League of Montgomery County on Monday, September 25th. Jackie was honored in true queen fashion with a tiara and sash. Pink flowers, and a gigantic pink cake also added to the fun. Jackie does not mind telling people her age is north of 90… we all agree she looks at least two decades younger! Jackie shared that the Assistance League Thrift Shop’s location is the third one during her time of service. She and some other Walden ladies served on the committee that researched locations and building plans for what is now the current location of the Assistance League of Montgomery County Thrift Shop. Jackie said her husband even designed the checkout counter and register area that is used to this day.

About 100 Assistance League members attended the celebration. Over the years Jackie gave innumerable hours volunteering for the residents of Montgomery County through the Assistance League. She is a Silver Star member and has been a member since January 1993! Walden so grateful to have residents like Jackie that give back to the community so tirelessly.

I am pleased to announce that we have five residents that signed up to run for the WCIA Board. They are, in alphabetical order, Todd Keifer, Nancy Newman, Janelle Rivera, Barry Smith and Tarri Solerno. They are running for the three-year term of 2024-2026. Look to your Newsletter and online for biographies for all candidates and the location for the Candidate forums. There are two forums scheduled – October 10th at 7:00 PM and October 21st at 11:00 AM. There are two positions open for this term.

Reminder: The Walden Blood Drive will be on October 7th but it is never too late to volunteer or request an appointment for blood donation. Contact email is WaldenBloodDrive@gmail.com.
