Next weekend kicks off Walden Labor Day celebrations. Please make a note, because of the holiday weekend, both the men’s breakfast and the lady’s luncheon will be hosted on September 8th.Â
The Yacht Club and Breakwater Grille will be hosting 5 days of fun filled music events starting on Thursday August 31st and continuing until Monday September 4th. Check out all the fun in your newsletter and in the email blasts. Â Â
Thanks to History.com: Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day weekend also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans and is celebrated with parties, street parades and athletic events. There are more historical details behind this national holiday on this same site.Â
My take away, beside the well-deserved holiday for working Americans, is that hope that it really does mark the end of summer.
The Walden Blood drive, in association with the MD Anderson Cancer Center is scheduled for October 7, 8am-4pm. It is held downstairs at the Yacht Club. Walden resident, Tamra Zubik, has spear headed this event for many years and the drive continues to be a very successful endeavor. The signup process for blood donors has already begun. The drives success requires not only blood donors but also folks volunteering their help before, during and after the event. To volunteer or request an appointment for blood donation, email WaldenBloodDrive@gmail.com.
If you are interested in running for the WCIA Board the sign-up process began August 15th and continues until 5pm on September 15th. You can obtain an application form and the submittal instructions at the administration office or online at waldenonlakeconroe.com. Those interested should be aware that this is an elected three-year position for the 2024-2026 term.
Did anyone see the recent, very short-lived, weather episode last Tuesday? There was something falling from the sky. It was wet stuff. Someone told me it was called rain. I had (literally) just finished cleaning my patio windows and washing my car. I think it was a coincidence but I am going to do it again in hopes that was what generated the much-needed precipitation.
Cheers to rain!
