The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County will present Colonel James Ray in a Veteran’s Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam POW Homecoming on November 11 at 1:00pm at the Owen Theatre, 225 Metcalf. It is open seating for the free event. 

Colonel James Edwin Ray was born on August 25, 1941, in Longview, Texas. A 1959 graduate of Conroe High School, he attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1964 with a degree in English. After graduation, he became an officer and fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Korat Royal Thai AFB in Thailand, where he flew F-105 Thunderchief fighter bombers. After completing 10 extremely dangerous missions over North Vietnam, he was forced to eject during his 11th mission and was immediately captured.

Ray spent 6 years, 9 months, and 4 days as a POW in North Vietnam and was held in several prison camps, including the “Hanoi Hilton.” He was released on February 12, 1973, and was honored with a homecoming gathering and parade at Tiger Stadium in March. Join the Heritage Museum in welcoming Colonel Ray. 

The Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park will host their Dedication of The Line, swearing in of new recruits to the Unites States Army, and the Groundbreaking of the new Education and Visitor Center at 9:00am Saturday, Nov. 11 at the park at 1776 Freedom Blvd in Conroe.

The Mighty Oaks Foundation’s 22 for 22 shines a light on Veteran Suicide with a festival at Heritage Park starting at 8:00am. Every day, an estimated 22 Veterans commit suicide, underscoring the dire need for intervention and support for those battling Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS). The 22 for 22 Challenge involves a series of 22 marathons completed over 22 days by Jeremy Stalnecker. 

The final marathon will conclude on Veteran’s Day, Saturday November 11 at 8 a.m., at Heritage Park. The public can join in the final run by signing up for a 5k, a 10k, or running the marathon with him. The day will be a family event, including food, bounce houses, and live worship music. www.mightyoaksprograms.org

202 Main is again hosting their innovative event- “Making a Craft Cocktail” where they teach you how to make two of their signature cocktails with an experienced mixologist on Friday, November 10 at 7:00pm. Each ticketed attendee will make Oh Fig with Spiced Rum and Pumpkin Spy using Vodka and Kahlua. Limited seating. Contact them via their FB page. 

The Theatres are getting ready for their next performances for the Holiday season which premieres Friday Dec. 1. Holiday Inn the Irving Berlin musical, will be at the Owen Theatre from The Players Theatre Company and the comical Christmas Belles hosted by Stage Right of Texas, will perform at the Crighton Theatre. Get season tickets for the remainder of the season through July and support local theatre! Both of our theatres exist due to season ticket holders and volunteers! Volunteers are needed backstage at each performance, as ushers, and to help with concessions. The benefit is free admission! 

Although the theatres are rehearsing for their December performances, Christian Youth Theatre will host “Anatasia” at the Crighton Theatre weekends starting Friday, November 10 through Sunday, November 19. Tickets available at CYTHouston.org
