Thursday, Sept. 7 is the final Thursday Free Concert at Heritage Park beginning at 7:00pm with a tribute to Bon Jovi. Food and drinks may be brought into the park but no glass containers.
The new season at the community theatres opens Friday, Sept 8 with “Anything Goes” at the Owen Theatre with The Players Theatre Company and “9 to 5 the Musical” opening at the Crighton Theatre from Stage Right. Looking for free family fun? The City of Conroe is hosting the Kid Fishing Derby Saturday, Sept 9 from 9:00am-noon at Carl Barton Jr. Park with hands-on fishing experience that will create wonderful memories for children and families. This FREE event will be held at Carl Barton Jr. Park for children ages 3 – 16. Participants may use their own fishing gear, however limited poles and bait will be available. All fishing participants must register at the event. Trophies will be awarded immediately following the final measuring.
Stay for the Kiwanis Kids Day at the park with inflatables, a rock wall, a petting zoo, EMS vehicle, a firetruck, and a Conroe Police Department vehicle for kids to pretend they are part of the team assisting others in the community from 11:00am-2:00pm at Carl Barton, Jr Park.
Are you a caregiver for someone with dementia? The Dementia Caregiver Support Group is a free group meeting the second Thursday of each month with a trained facilitator hosted by Jamie Meche and Megan Hester. The next meeting is Thursday, Sept 14 at Mims Baptist Church from 10:00am-11:30. Open to any caregivers, friends, and family of individuals with dementia.
Coming up Saturday September 16 is the 13th Annual Woodforest Run at Heritage Park in downtown Conroe starting at 7:40am. This year’s race will include a 10K run/walk and 5K walk/run. “Barkley Shoe Dash” for kids ages 5-7 and 8-12. Participants start the race with one shoe, dash 50 yards to retrieve and put on their shoe from a pile of competing runners’ shoes, then dash back 50 yards to the finish line.
Music in the Park will take place as a new event hosted by the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce at West Montgomery County Park, near FM 149 also on Saturday, September 16 from 2:00pm-10:00pm. Learn all the details including headliner Chad Cooke Band, Haydon Haddock, a kids’ area with inflatables, fun activities, food trucks, a wine and beer garden, and shade!
