Lots happening in Downtown Conroe!

The Conroe Downtown Area Association (CDAA) has new businesses, new events, and a NEW website. Check it out to stay in the know and then sign up to be a member of the CDAA and get the perks of being in the know of local events, opportunities to engage your business, or be a part of the innovations downtown. The seventh annual Christmas on Main will be happening November 28 after the Annual Tree Lighting at Heritage Place Park.

The Conroe Art League (CAL) has announced its fall education classes, including several new offerings. Donna Rodgers will be offering Sculpting for Beginners, introducing students to clay sculpting, and taking experienced sculptors to the next level. Classes are Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Contact Donna at donnacr3@gmail.com to register. 
    
Cynthia Reid is back to help participants improve their drawing with another session of Inktober, Thursdays from 10 – 11:30 a.m., Sept. 14 through Nov. 2. Contact Cynthia at cynreid17@gmail.com for details about this fun project. 

Friday, September 1 is the next Sip, Shop, and Stroll through Downtown Conroe. New merchants, new restaurants, and lots of fun from 5:00pm-9:00pm with the Poker Run! Grab a card at participating businesses while you’re eating and shopping then play your hand at 8:00pm at The Hideaway 202 Main. Prizes are gift cards from your favorite downtown businesses! Look for the green Ace of Spades posters at participating businesses to collect your cards. Rules of the game will be posted at each business.

Do you like to shoot skeet? Meals on Wheels Montgomery County is “Aiming” to Feed Seniors at their Annual Great Pumpkin Shoot and are hoping to add ten more teams to their Friday, October 6 at Able’s Sporting, Inc. 357 FM 1791 in Huntsville TX, to benefit the homebound elderly of Montgomery County. Thursday, Sept. 7 is the final Thursday Free Concert at Heritage Park beginning at 7:00pm with a tribute to Bon Jovi. Food and drinks may be brought into the park but no glass containers. 

Still time to contribute to the bust for Mary McCoy! The Greater Conroe Arts Alliance is hoping to raise funds for a bust of Mary and pedestal installed in Founder’s Plaza next to the Owen Theatre in downtown Conroe. The total is $20,000 and contributions of $1000 or more will have donor names inscribed on plaque. Mary McCoy holds the Guinness World Record title for the longest career as a female radio presenter; 72 years on air in Conroe! There are currently statues of several artists from the Conroe area- Dave Parsons, 2011 Texas Poet Laureate, Annette Gordon-Reed, a CHS alumni and Pulitzer Prize awardee, and one for the Young Texas Artists Music Competition held in March.
