Susie Pokorski was selected as 2023 Conroe Citizen of the Year after Larry Foerster (2022 Citizen of the Year) shared a brief history of Isaac Conroe and the namesake for the City of Conroe. 

Wednesday, August 16 is the Monthly Senior Luncheon at the Conroe Senior Center with Specialist, Steven Squier of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Coordinator for Montgomery County Crime Stoppers. Steve will cover information on fraud, scams, how you can protect your personal information, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Dept Citizens Academy. Seniors 65 and over can RSVP for the lunch by Monday, August 14 to 936-522-3950 by August 14. The luncheon is free of charge starting at 11:00am at the Conroe Senior Center, 1202 Candy Cane Lane in Conroe.

This is the last weekend to see the Hunchback of Notre Dame at the Crighton Theatre with youth from CYT Houston. Catch the performances Friday, August 18 at 7pm, Saturday, August 19 at 2pm and 7pm, and final showing is Sunday, August 20 at 2pm. Tickets available through CYTHouston.org. 

The 3rd Annual Overdose Awareness Walkathon is Saturday, August 19 from 8am-10am with guest speaker Congressman Morgan Luttrell speaking about the fentanyl crisis. The free community event will be held at 2510 South Loop 336 in Conroe with multiple health and wellness vendors, music, and food in honor of the over 5,000 Texans who lost their lives to an overdose in 2022. 

Registration for the first session of fall Youth Dance is open for tap, ballet, and jazz programs for ages 18 months to 13 years. Karate, youth soccer, flag football, and gymnastics are some of the most popular classes available through the City of Conroe. Get the kids involved in activities to build character! Raising a Hand Volume Three will be presented as a Tribute to Dosey Doe by Kevin Black and Dave Clements on Saturday, August 19th at the Gary P Nunn show that night with all proceeds of the sale of the book for Rhett Syndrome research and family support featuring 338 musical artists that have played at Dosey Doe. Don’t miss the Inaugural Salsa Competition at Southern Star Brewing Sunday, August 20 from 2-4pm. Bring your homemade family recipe and the spicey salsa.
