A question I often get is, “How in the world do you manage to come up something different to write about week after week?” Truth is, with a community as active and diverse and interesting as Bentwater, there’s no shortage of things and/or people to write about. The challenge is, and always has been, being able to write about things that are timely. Not whining, mind you. Just sharing a little background. Because the article is first published in the Sunday edition of the Conroe Courier and later shared on various social media, the paper’s print deadline demands the finished article be submitted by the prior Thursday. That means anything that happens to or for or by someone after Wednesday would necessarily have to be covered, if at all, in the following week’s edition. And, by then, I’m hopefully focused on more topical stories. You see the dilemma, right?
Case in point, Good Friday. Now lots of good things are appropriately celebrated on Good Friday and this past Good Friday was particularly good for celebrating by Denise Carey. For anyone who hasn’t already heard, Denise scored her very first hole-in-one that day. Under the heading of better late than never, you might want to give her a high-five next time you see her. With a little prompting, she might even give you a play-by-play commentary. If not, I’ll share that it took place on the 3-par #2 hole at Grand Pines from 106 yards using a smooth 8-iron. It might be considered to be a breach of etiquette if I were to also tell you how long the celebration lasted back at The Lodge or who joined in the fun. But she can. I promise you that the entire day will forever be indelibly etched in her memory banks. That said, you might want to ask her about it soon rather than later because, over time, good stories can sometimes become remembered with modest embellishment for some folks. You know. The 8-iron becomes a pitching wedge. The distance becomes 200 yards. The winds start to howl. Minor details. What will never change is that she made her ace when playing a pink golf ball, and there’s a photo to prove it. Of course, she’d never dare tee up a “water ball” just in case, so I’m sure that pink ball was brand new, fresh out of the sleeve. Yep, it was a good Friday, especially at Grand Pines. Attagirl, Denise.
Now, back to being timely and topical, you might want to make note to attend the POA quarterly board meeting to be happening in the Harborview Room of the Yacht Club on Thursday the 18th starting at 7 PM. I know. Not as much fun as a hole-in-one, but…
