Good Sunday morning, Bentwater, and Happy Easter.  I normally try to mix in a little dry humor and sometimes even a touch of sarcasm just to see if you’re paying attention. But not today. Easter is a special day that’s intended to be a day of rebirth and revitalization.  It’s also a day to celebrate pure innocence.  That’s especially true for the youngsters for whom Easter is mostly about peeps and colored eggs and Easter baskets and family gatherings.  For those of us a bit longer in the tooth, it’s perhaps more a day for reflection and somber contemplation and being grateful.  For all ages, it’s a day of calm, of feasting, of worship, of sharing.

A day of hope for the future and appreciation for all the good things already in our lives.  It’s a time for a well-needed attitude adjustment and cause for introspection. Yep, Easter stands apart from all other holidays, religious or otherwise, for all these reasons. Even so, Easter is very personal, don’t you think?  It seems to bring with it a mood that causes us, and most people in our spheres of friends and family, to be especially mellow on this day.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could all manage to find that same Easter attitude all the other 364 days of the year?  The Good Book tells us, “Seek and ye shall find,” so there should be no debate that it’s within our reach to make that happen.  Of course, it might be a lot easier if we could ignore the media and skip all the news cycles for a bit.  If you don’t have the discipline to turn off your screens, here’s another idea.  Just get rid of ‘em.  I know, that may seem a bit extreme, but there’s never been a better time.

You see, your Bentwater Civic Association (BCA) will be holding its electronics recycling event this coming Saturday, the 6th, so you have a whole week to decide what’s junk and what to save.  It’ll happen from 9 to noon in the front parking lot of North Shore Church, and it’s free to BCA members.  Not yet a member?  No worries.  Just know that you’ll be asked to pay the county’s recycling fees which will be collected for any electronics with a screen for sure.  $10 for a television (any size) and $5 for a computer, and certain other items may be assessed on site.  Of course, you can avoid all that simply by joining the BCA on the spot.  For only $20/year you’re covered for this and all other events.  Meanwhile, as you consider whether to join or not, recycle or not, here’s wishing you all a blessed Easter.
