Happy March, y’all.  As you may have heard, Election Day is this coming Tuesday, the 5th.  Seems odd to say that since it definitely is no longer just a day.  Many of you reading this have already voted and it was so long ago that you may even have forgotten which boxes you checked on the ballot.  But, for the rest of you, duty calls.  After all, our little corner of Montgomery County is definitely growing, and not voting isn’t really not voting.  It’s more of a sideways vote for the other side (whichever side that might be in your case).  Voting is a right.  An obligation.  A privilege.  Don’t let yours go to waste.

By the day after, Wednesday, the 6th, the smoke will have cleared and you’ll have a pretty clear view of what November will look like.  But we still have several months between here and there, and life goes on.  That’s why you might be interested in attending the North Shore Republican Women (NSRW) monthly luncheon at Bentwater Country Club on Wednesday to hear what Dr. Dawn Buckingham (not a PHD but a real doctor of medicine) has to say about Texas’ growing pains.   If you don’t know, Dr. Buckingham is your Texas Land Commissioner and, if you didn’t know that, you probably also don’t know what a land commissioner does.  Well, today she (her office) operates the Alamo, helps Texans recovering from natural disasters, helps fund Texas public education through the Permanent School Fund, provides benefits to Texas Veterans, and manages the vast Texas coast.  If you’d like to know more details and/or gain some clarity, go get educated while enjoying lunch with your neighbors.

In a completely different sort of meeting, NSRW will also be co-hosting a dinner at the Yacht on March 21st and the speaker will be Kirk Cameron.  Some of you may know him as Mike Seaver from the popular television series back in the mid-80s and early-90s.  You remember.  Growing Pains.   Well, over the past forty years or so, Kirk has certainly grown up and he’s also grown in a much different direction.  In addition to being an actor and television host, he’s also an evangelist with a passion for building character in children by providing them with a greater sense of right and wrong.  His current project is called “Adventures with Iggy and Mr. Kirk” and he’ll describe the details at the dinner.  There’s no cost for the program but, in addition to a cash bar, dinner will cost $30 (all inclusive).  So, you’ll need to make reservations before the 14th by calling the club at (936) 597-6219.  Dinner’s at 6:30, doors open at 5:30.  Iggy?  You know you’re curious.
