Topic of the day?  New Year’s Resolutions.  We all make them and some folks actually keep theirs.  Well, at least for a few days.  But be honest.  Have you ever kept all your New Year’s Resolutions for more than a few weeks?  How ‘bout one of ‘em?  Pick one.  Any one.  No?  Me neither.  What is it about flipping a page on the calendar that causes us think we will?  Or can?  I mean, every day is a new day, right?  So, what’s so special about the first day of the first month of any year?

Do we really think that when a year ends it’s really over?  Nope.  Life goes on.  We’ve certainly had no shortage of calamities and dramas of one sort or another this past year, and the pundits of every persuasion are guaranteeing more to come.  Well, fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  So, I ain’t buyin’ it.  Instead, I’m choosing to focus on being grateful for all the goodness that lives here in Bentwater, for the hundreds of you who volunteered doing things to improve the lives of others.  Good people doing good things.  And you’re why I’m optimistic for the times ahead.  Hope you’ll join me because, just turn the page and, bam, it’s officially next year.  Seriously.  Just like that.  No option to stay in 2023 even if you wanted to.  Nope, it’s the next year.  So, jump in.  Just figure out what to leave behind and what to take with you, and step on the gas.  Wherever you’re going, go with gusto.  Not sure where that is?

Well, after a month of socializing at holiday parties and now in the midst of weeks of non-stop college football games (how many bowl games are there anyway?) with several thousand calories consumed during each, some of us might be thinking of going to the gym.  That assumes, of course, that we can remember where it is.  Others know where it is but have cleverly recognized that it’ll be too crowed for a few days thanks to all those resolutions.  So, it will certainly be a lot smarter to wait for some of those resolutions to fade away before attacking that treadmill.  Meanwhile, just choose to be happy.  Stay grateful.

After all, the Super Bowl is way, way out there in February, so what else is there to do with all this new-found spare time?  Maybe I’ll see if I can locate my golf clubs again.  I’m sure they’re around here somewhere.  After all, my New Year’s Resolution is…oh, never mind.  Wishing you a blessed New Year, Bentwater.
