It happens every year.  Some Bentwater homes, and even some entire areas, display inspiring works of art, seasonal lighting and Christmas themes.  So, if you’re looking for something to help you feel even merrier over the next few hours while waiting for Santa Claus to arrive, you might consider a brief cruise around the neighborhood this evening to check out what your neighbors have done.  Who knows. Â
It could turn out to be your inspiration for next year.  I won’t even attempt to list all the homes that are so impressively decorated because, best intentions notwithstanding, it’s pretty much guaranteed that I’d miss someone (or several someones).  But I will go out on a limb and suggest one particular area I think you’ll find is worth your time and attention, even admiration.  It’s Ridge Lake Lane.  If you aren’t sure where that is, it spans the length of #4 Miller.  Go see it for yourself.  It’s quite a show.Â
And while the sun’s still up, what better to do than write a letter to Santa?  Yeah, there’s still time.  Because one of your neighbors has temporarily installed a magic mailbox with a direct pipeline to Santa.  It’s a really clever idea (at least my bride and I thought so) and it works like this.  The kiddos write a letter (or note) to Saint Nick and drop it into the magic mailbox.  The experience is a memory-maker for the youngsters plus, sometime after Christmas, mom and/or dad can drop by and retrieve the note as a keepsake for the family scrapbook. Talk about a gift that keeps on giving. Maybe for generations.
Everything they’ll need (note cards, writing implements, envelopes) will be in a waterproof container beneath the mailbox.  Just retrieve what you need, write what you want, put into the magic mailbox and, poof, Santa has it.  You might just be sure their name or your house number or something similar on the envelope that will help identify which belongs to who whenever you come by to pick it up.  Santa’s helper, the elf who came up with the idea, is Kelly Peacock and the magic mailbox is curbside in front of her home at 210 Monterrey Road West. Â
Her contact information will be there, too, for your convenience in following up.  Yet another great example of our Bentwater neighbors giving back, paying it forward and, just maybe, beginning a new tradition – a pretty magical Christmas tradition at that.  Here’s wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas, Bentwater.
