I know. We’re not even to the tricking and treating part yet, and November and December are already coming at us fast. So, just take a deep breath and enjoy, because there are some really fun activities in your future. For example, one of the highlights of every year is the Holiday Home Tour, orchestrated by to the Bentwater Ladies Organization.
This year it falls on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 5th and 6th, so mark your calendars. More importantly, support the effort and get your tickets right now while it’s fresh on you mind. You can pick them up at the POA office or just ask your favorite BLO member. Now, if you’ve attended the home tour before, you’re keenly aware that it doesn’t just happen. No sirree. This event requires lots of effort by lots of people, starting with the “sales” skills of the BLO planning committee. What? You think it’s easy convincing five homeowners to hand over their homes for forty-eight hours, not to mention the weeks of preparing and decorating.
And, come game time, the BLO will have drafted hordes of enthusiastic BLO volunteers who’ll be stealthily stationed throughout each home to guide revelers through them. I’m telling you all this now even though the event itself is still weeks away because Kevin Doris needs your help, and he’s on a tight schedule. You see, Kevin (whose roommate, coincidentally, is the BLO President) has been sweet talked into taking on the responsibility of recruiting a few good men. Actually, a lot of good men. Seems they’re needing at least 60 or so cheerful fellas spread over the two nights, albeit only two hours at a time. You’ll find these dozens of unsung heroes standing outside in the cold and dark just to help you find a place to park and keep the traffic flowing so you and all your friends arrive safely at each home in a good mood. Easy peasy. Now, I hope you’ll agree that it’s important for these guys to be in a good mood themselves.
And, who knows? Some of them might even have a bit of libation somewhere close by. If all this sounds like an interesting gig, just let Kevin know. But don’t dally. It’s first-come, first-served so you’ll need to reach out to him at kpdoris@aol.com by November 10th to be sure he can work you into the schedule. Just think of it. Hanging out with the most popular men in Bentwater, you’ll actually be one of the cool kids. Well, for a couple of hours anyway.
