While you weren’t looking, Bentwater has gotten a lot younger.  It’s important to acknowledge that fact but it’s even more important to reflect back to when many of us first came here.  If you can believe it, we were once a lot younger, too.  And many, if not most, of these young families moved to Bentwater largely for the same reasons we did, albeit in a different decade (or several).  Yes, we have more than a few retired neighbors but Bentwater is hardly a retirement community.  No, Bentwater is a vibrant community and we’re right in the middle of an increasingly vibrant county – Montgomery. Â
As County Judge, Mark Keough, reminded us who were at the MOB luncheon this past week, we’re growing.  Both in population and in infrastructure.  Literally dozens of new communities are being added every year and they’re mostly communities of single-family homes.  Nothing against townhomes or apartments.  After all, everybody has to live somewhere, and chances are that we’ve all called one of those home at some point in life.  But single-family is the American Dream and much of the world is now moving to Texas in pursuit of that dream.  You should be surprised that Montgomery County is attracting more than its fair share.  My advice is simply to take a deep breath and embrace it, ‘cause you ain’t gonna change it.    Â
What you have changed is the makeup of your Board of Trustees.  Warren Dean has surrendered his seat after six years of selfless service.  Thanks, Warren.  Newly elected to that seat is your new Board Member, Jasen Dill.  As I’ve noted in the past, some might compare winning a Board seat to that car-chasing hound should he ever actually catch it.  The responsibility of serving on the POA Board is a lot to handle, and Jasen represents that next, younger generation who’s now willingly volunteering their time and energy and talents to serve you and the Bentwater community.  Board work is a serious, challenging and, too-often, thankless role.  They’re all deserving of our full support.  Please give it.
And, speaking of volunteers, how about those Bentwater Volunteer Families.  They were just awarded the 2023 Pinnacle Award at last week’s POA meeting.  If you don’t already know, Bentwater Volunteer Families (BVF) is a service organization of Bentwater families with students between the approximate ages of 11 to 18, dedicated to giving back to the community.  Whether boxing food for local Meals On Wheels or writing letters to go with cookies being sent to our soldiers or working alongside the Bentwater Civic Association volunteers during the BCA’s myriad recycling events, BVF regularly demonstrates why they are deserving of the Pinnacle Award in recognition of their contributions to the community. Well done, BVF.
