Tomorrow is September 11th. Nine eleven. Two words that conjure up an instant mental flashback of where we were and what we experienced on that morning. We all remember how confusion turned to disbelief then to fear then to outright anger. Nine eleven changed all our lives, forever. Hopefully, by now, we’ve all let the anger go. As we should. But never forget.
A couple of weeks ago, I teased that the BLGA “Rumble in the Jungle” annual Bentwater Invitational Golf Tournament coming up this next weekend was probably a hurricane magnet. While said in jest, if I’m being honest, it was a semi-serious effort at reverse psychology aimed at coaxing Mother Nature to help us out. While we still have a few days before tee time to fixate on the nightly weather forecast, it’s pretty clear by now that the ploy ain’t gonna work. No hurricanes in our corner of Texas. So, it’s time to pull out all the stops and use that guaranteed rain producer. You know. The one that never fails. Yep. I’m going to get my car washed. And, if you’re tired of two months in triple-digit temps and the resulting drought, watching your lawn turn brown and your shrubs wither and having your MUD water bill being more than your electric bill, you will, too. Actually, everyone should. Go get your car, all your cars, washed (at the car wash using someone else’s water). A little wax and polish wouldn’t hurt the odds. It’s all now in your hands.
Meanwhile, there’s something else also in your hands. Specifically, the POA Board of Trustees election is now open for voting until September 20th, and you need to vote. And do it now. “But I have until the 20th,” you’re thinking to yourself. Nope. You know perfectly well that there are too many of your neighbors thinking the same thing and, if they don’t do it right now, it’s likely they won’t at all. Happens every time. The election gets decided by those few hundred who don’t procrastinate. You have three very competent candidates to consider and, just by virtue of having the willingness to serve, all deserve your attention. They are (alphabetically by first name) Jasen Dill, Kyle Calhoun, and Sonia Key. If you don’t personally know them, talk to your neighbors who do or make the effort to get to know them by simply reading their resumes on the POA website. They’re also posted in the ballot that was emailed to you a few days ago. Regardless, just do it. Vote. Now.
