Well, here we are. Smack dab in the middle of July and nary a national holiday in sight. Now what? Well, I guess we’re gonna have to come up with our own causes for celebration. Good thing for us, we live in Bentwater where we never have to search too hard or wait too long for a reason to socialize. After all, there’s always something going on here in our little corner of paradise. Naturally, you have the golf, tennis, pickleball, swimming, pumping iron, boating, fishing or, the best part of country club living, just sitting on the veranda sipping lemonade and swapping stories with friends. The activities are great and there’s always something to do (and someone to do it with) if you’ll just look around. But it’s the people that matter most. Your neighbors.

Ready to meet more neighbors? I strongly recommend the BLO’s monthly Mix ‘n’ Mingle. It’s on the third Tuesday of the month (that’ll be this coming Tuesday, the 18th) in the Crescent Grill of the Country Club. Folks typically start gathering around 4. Some stay an hour or two, and others will stay through dinner. Whether you’re new to Bentwater or have lived here forever, you’re guaranteed to meet some folks who’ll share your common interests and, like yourself, they will be wanting to meet others who share their common interests. And poof. Just like that, lifelong friendships are born. Regardless of how long you decide to hang around, you’re very likely to start filling up your social calendar. Sounds complicated, but it’s stupid easy. Just show up. It’s called networking.

And networking happens at all ages. For example, have you heard about Young Families of Bentwater? Yes, it’s about the kids, but it’s mostly about those young moms and dads. They’re a group whose purpose is to connect families with children elementary school age and under, to create a stronger fellowship, and build new friendships within the community. The group is the brainchild of Sonia Key who, together with Ciana Simpson, oversees the activities of the group. Limited to Bentwater residents who are parents or legal guardians of children that meet the age requirements, the group currently has over 80 active members and will most certainly grow as Bentwater grows. As Sonia points out, in the beginning years of raising a family it’s critical to have a community surrounding and supporting them. That’s Bentwater.

Their next big event is part of their Summer Family Movie Series hosted the last Friday of the month at the Community Park, and you’re invited to join them on July 28 to watch Super Mario Brothers. If you’d like to learn more about the organization, email them at
youngfamiliesofbentwater@gmail.com
and/or sign up for their monthly newsletter at
