Each year this time, lots of folks jump on a plane and jet off to spend the holidays in another climate somewhere.  Some go skiing while others prefer to soak up the sun on the beach.  Me?  I don’t know why I’d ever leave the compound.  I mean, it’s great to meet new people and explore new places and all, but it’s pretty comfortable celebrating with neighbors and enjoying the company of great friends right here.

And, in this season of reflection, I hope you’ll also take a moment to remind yourself just how wonderful our lives are here in Texas.  Here in Bentwater.  When we get too comfortable, we can sometimes take things granted.  So, flash back with me.  Do you remember the path that brought you here?  Do you remember your excitement in moving here?  How about your first drive through the gate?  Pretty special as I recall.

That’s why I’m quite satisfied to spend Christmas here.  Now I just have to figure out what to do with the $10,000 or so I didn’t spend on travel.  I’m guessing my bride might be able to help.
Since you can only take so many leftovers for so long, it’s reasonable to think you might find yourself heading to the country club sometime soon to enjoy a meal prepared by someone else followed by all the dishes being washed by someone else.  As you do, please join me in showing your appreciation for our service staff.  Give a sincere “thanks” to these young folks who spend day after day dealing with grumpy old men and demanding young women, all the while keeping a smile on their faces.  They’re pretty special.  Just like Bentwater.

So, whether the serendipity of life brought you here or you were smart enough to plan it, I hope you’re now remembering and are as pleased as we are to have found your way home.
Of course, it isn’t feeling a whole lot like Christmas based solely on temperatures.  More like Easter I’d say.  But, that’s kinda fitting when you consider that they each celebrate the same reason for the season.   So, enjoy it.  Take the opportunity to tour your neighborhood and soak up some of the carefully-strung glitter, whether to show it off to visiting friends and family or just for your own enjoyment.  In either case, I hope you’ll take a moment to consider how blessed you are to live where you live.  Here’s wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
