Bentwater-ites (not sure that’s really even a word), you have outdone yourselves.  Again.  With a couple of locations (as I write this) still to be picked up, your support of Toys For Tots has far exceeded past years.  Thanks to your generosity, thousands of toys have been collected, taken to Santa’s community workshop and are being carefully packed into the sleigh by Santa’s elves so they’re ready to be discovered under the trees of all those excited, delighted tots on Christmas Day.  It’s logical that population growth would have increased numbers in Bentwater somewhat, but it’s unquestionable that more of your neighbors were also part of the effort this year.

Either way, your collective and individual generosity knows no bounds.  You can, and should, take great pleasure in knowing you are anonymously affecting countless lives right here in our little corner of Texas.  Moreover, while volume certainly matters, the real value is found in the “power of one.”  One child.  One gift.  One family.  One at a time.  All thanks to one caring stranger.  You.  Merry Christmas.

Since we’re talking about people helping people, here’s another bit of news you might find uplifting.  It seems there’s a new social group being formed by and for Bentwater residents.  It’s BWW, Bentwater Widows and Widowers, aimed at bringing together those who have experienced the loss of a spouse or domestic partner.  This is not a bereavement group.  Quite the contrary.  It’s a social group for any widow or widower who might like to get together now and then for a mid-afternoon social.  Their goal is simply to provide a setting of interaction with one another as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.  In addition to their monthly social gathering, the group plans to periodically host other activities and perhaps occasional outings.  Granted, it would be human nature for some readers to just ignore this entire message because they think it doesn’t apply to them since they’re not in this situation.

But everyone knows at least one somebody who is, right?  And that’s precisely the point.  They need you to help make them aware that such a resource exists, and it exists specifically for them, for their benefit.  It’s a scheduled event at the club and it happens on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 3 to 5 PM.  To learn more about BWW, Lynnette Russo is your source for details.  You can reach her by phone at (281) 782-1749 or email her at lynnette@consolidated.net.
