We are now reaching the culmination of our 2023 holidays, unless you are strict advocates of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and are still waiting for the maids a-dancing and the lords a-leaping! We talk about “ringing in the New Year”, which will happen tonight. In the old days, many communities celebrated the New Year, by ringing the bells of all the churches.
Here in April Sound many folks will celebrate the coming of the New Year in various ways. There’s a sold-out crowd for the Dueling Pianos at the Club, many friends are getting together in homes for parties or for playing games, some are going out to dinner at favorite restaurants, some are staying home and curling up with a blankie and watching the festivities on television. Whatever you are choosing to do, best wishes for a fabulous New Year 2024 and all the best in the days to come.
As the New Year begins, our thoughts turn to plans for the year ahead – of how we can balance home responsibilities, work, leisure time, and still save time for worthwhile activities. Many school, church, and community organizations are gearing up for their 2024 year. Both the April Sound Ladies Association and the April Sound Men’s Club will be starting anew soon. The ASLA is open to all women who belong to the Country Club and this year boasted about 350 members. The new Executive Board of ASLA was elected at the November luncheon and is as follows: Linda Harmon President; Regina Symons, First Vice President – Programming; Desiree Blache’ Second Vice President – Interest Groups; Third Vice President – Membership, Pam Frisbee; Michelle Martin, Recording Secretary; Sandi Preddy, Corresponding Secretary; and Penny Grassedonio, Parliamentarian. If you were a member of ASLA in 2023, you soon will receive your membership form. Please be sure to carefully mark all your choices of the 40 interest groups, and return your check as directed.

The April Sound Men’s Club, open to all men of April Sound who hold Club memberships, also has elected the new Executive Board for 2024 as follows: Johnny Kopecky, President; Bob Harmon, Vice President of Programs; Dino Caldera, Vice President of Membership; John Ricci, Vice President of Special Interest; J.R. Allen, Vice President of Publicity; Chuck Fox, Treasurer and Jerry Hines, Secretary.
The ASMC holds its monthly luncheons on the third Thursday of each month, except December in the Waterside Room at the Club at 11:30 a.m. They have entertaining meetings with excellent presenters, and there are special activities that sometime include wives and significant others. Dues are $25 each year. If you’re interested in joining ASMC, please call Dino Caldera at 213/820-0978. All returning members should receive notice soon. A group of the men also meet weekly at Magnolia Grill for breakfast and “discussion” at 8 a.m., except on luncheon days.
