Last Saturday night was the long-awaited April Sound Ladies Association Gala, which was open to all ASLA members and spouses. The Gala Committee, Denyce Coker, Sharon Gerson, Valerie McConnin, and Kay Wick, with help on and off from several other ASLA members, had been planning this annual event since the early days of 2023. They truly wanted to make it very special for all the members, and especially for ASLA President Linda Harmon. Their theme was a lake Christmas and their beautiful decorations all featured lighthouses, oars, wreaths, swags all featuring silver, white and turquoise balls and the big tree followed the theme with all its décor. The mark of a good band, in my estimation, is how busy the dance floor is. The band, Velvet Punch, really brought it with their song selections, and the dance floor was scarcely ever open, but usually was very crowded, and when they played a slow song, there were couples dancing all around the tables when the dance floor was filled. All in all, it was a perfect event for the 164 attending, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the evening.

If you’re reading this on Sunday morning, there is still time to plan to attend the April Sound Christmas Home Tour which will be from 4-7 p.m. This tour is open to all April Sound Country Club members and their guests, adults only, and is sponsored by the Social Committee of the April Sound Country Club. To register, please come to the tables just outside the Clubhouse. Entrance fee for each person is an unwrapped new toy, which will be donated to the Marines’ Toys for Tots. As you register, you will receive a wristband, a brochure listing facts about the five participating homes, and directions to each of the homes. Each participating homeowner had a group from the committee volunteering to help with the decorations in any way they were needed. This tour of the beautifully decorated homes is truly a highlight of the holiday season.

I am proud to say that the 175 Salvation Army tags have all been adopted, and on Wednesday morning, December 13th, between 10 and noon, the Salvation Army truck and Lt. Claudia Guzman of the Salvation Army will be here as all the bags will be returned filled with the gifts that were on the wish lists of the 35 senior citizens and the 140 children. One lady and her sister took triplet sisters, age seven. Later she called all excited with all that they had bought for the little girls. I am deeply grateful for each person who took one or more tags to fulfill Christmas for those in need. During the luncheon, Lt. Guzman will explain how the distribution of the tags impacts the community. I will also be presenting a check for their continued work which is a total of all the money collected from February at each luncheon, plus some extra donations. What a great project for ASLA to support!
