If you were out and about the neighborhood on Saturday night, you may have seen a great amount of extra golf cart traffic on our streets between 5 and 7 p.m. What was going on? It was the Fall Fun Golf Cart Card Run sponsored by the Social Committee of our Country Club. It was appropriately named “The Monster Mash”, and folks were encouraged to dress in costume and decorate their golf carts for the occasion.
Four families volunteered their homes for the Run, and, with friends and families, made small bites and drinks to be served in their driveways. At each home while enjoying their snacks and drinks, everyone received a sealed envelope with a playing card inside. The fifth card to complete the Poker hand was given out at arrival back at the Club for a Party on the Patio. Jeff Bishop and Dino Caldera entertained with music, and the Club had drinks and snacks available. The best Poker hands received prizes and there were some surprise extra prizes given out. The event has become very popular and almost sold out on the first day of sign-ups and soon had a waiting list. Everyone attending had a great time!
I’m thinking that there may be some residents of April Sound who have not heard about the Halloween Carnival sponsored by the April Sound Civic Association that is coming up on Halloween Night from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Tennis Center. Many years ago, when Kim Ward was on the Civic Association Board, she wanted to have something special for our April Sound children on Halloween. It started with the purchase of a big blow-up haunted house installed in the middle of the Lakeside Room, pictures to color and cookies to decorate, and treat bags to take home. Now, after the years have passed, it has morphed into a huge festival at the Tennis Center with a decorated tunnel and the inside filled with games and prizes, music by Dino Caldera, everyone, even adults in fantastic costumes and the ever-popular Cake Walk with cakes, cookies, and cupcakes for prizes. Last year almost 1000 people attended! Even if you don’t have “young’uns” to bring, it would be worth your while to just come and enjoy! OR, you could volunteer! This doesn’t all just fall together without many helping hands.
The Civic Association Board will be putting everything up most of the day on the 30th, and from noon on Halloween Day will be attending to all the finishing touches on everything to make sure it’s ready by 5. AND, we always need all those lovely donations of cookies, cakes and cupcakes so we can run the Cake Walk throughout the evening. To volunteer to help set up or tear down, or to help run a game for anytime during the Carnival, please call Michelle Martin at 281-804-0147. To volunteer to bring goodies, please call Ann Marie at 936-447-1336. Be sure to mark your calendars and come celebrate Halloween with the April Sound Civic Association!
