It is time for an update from your April Sound Civic Association. In case you are new to our neighborhood, there are three separate entities that all work together to create our lovely and viable community. The Country Club and the POA are part of the triangle. The ASCA is a separate group of volunteers with thirteen Board members elected by the membership.

The Civic Association was founded in the 1970’s, and since that time, many folks have donated time and talent to the many projects and events sponsored by this group. Over the years activities have been added and become traditions.

There is a long list of projects and events sponsored by the Civic Association: Family events — The Easter Eggstravaganza, the Fourth of July Parade, the Halloween Carnival, Christmas with Santa and the lighting of the Boulevard; beautification projects such as the butterfly garden and Memory Park near the POA Building; purchase, cleaning, upkeep and installation of the seasonal banners along the Boulevard; production and advertising sales of the Neighborhood Directory published every two years; purchase, storage, installation and upkeep of all the Holiday Lighting for the Boulevard; sponsorship of the Yard of the Month with announcements of selected winners in the POA newsletter; the American flags that are installed all along the Boulevard for selected holidays; the yearly Garage Sale in the parking lot of the April Sound Church; and the Welcome Wagon deliveries of a gift bag to new residents.

ASCA obtains funds from our yearly membership drive, and from fundraising. It can be confusing because the By-Laws state that the ASCA year will begin on the first Friday in March of each year, when the Annual General Meeting occurs, and will end on the same day the following year. This is hard to remember. The annual dues for the Civic Association are $25 for families and $15 for singles. There are approximately 2800 residences in April Sound and each home benefits in some way from the projects and events of the Association. Still, for 2023 there are only 349 paid members! All of you who have joined this year are much appreciated.

This year’s Membership Chairperson, Traci Myers, has the dream of having 500 members by the end of the year. Traci has made lists of all the folks who were members in 2021 and 2022 and haven’t yet renewed. With the confusion in the timing, it’s possible some folks think they have paid for this year and just missed it. Please review your checkbook and see if you have joined and, if not, please consider doing so. Board members have taken lists of folks they recognize and know and hope to be making reminder calls. Membership forms are available at the POA Office, on-line at www.aprilsoundcivicassociation.com, or you can contact Traci on her cell at 936-522-6633 or traci@tracimyers.com.

All members who have joined by the Lighting of the Boulevard on November 24th will have a chance to win great prizes at Santa’s drawing.
