Each year the Country Clubs affiliated with Clubcorp throughout the United States sponsor a Charity Classic to benefit both an organization important to each individual Club’s local community and Clubcorp’s Employee Care Foundation. Â
This next Friday evening, September 15, is the date chosen for our April Sound Club’s  Annual Charity Classic which this year is a Masquerade Ball in the Lakeside Room at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate in dancing, dining and an auction. Then, the Charity Golf Tournament will be played on Sunday, September 17, beginning at 1 p.m. Our Club has teamed with the Helping Hands Foundation of the April Sound Church and the funds raised from both the Masquerade Ball and the Golf Tournament will be shared equally with our Club’s Employee Care Foundation which lends assistance to Club employees who may be having some kind of crisis event in their lives. If you would like to participate in either the Friday evening event or the Golf Tournament, you may contact the Club at 936-588-1101.
Helping Hands of the April Sound Church partners with the Community Assistance Center of Conroe to provide assistance for neighbors in crisis. Each Tuesday and Thursday trained volunteers from the church meet with Montgomery Country residents to provide help with bills. Each person applying for aid through Helping Hands must present the necessary paperwork from utilities, rental agents, or mortgage companies so that their request can be sent directly to the billing provider. The funds for this project come from a percentage of the weekly offering, from the net proceeds of the Charity Classic, and from individual donations. In 2022, close to $100,000 in aid was given.Â
Calling all veterans and all convertible owners! On Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11th, the April Sound Civic Association will sponsor the annual Veterans Day Parade honoring all veterans. We hope to have a great number of veterans of all ages to come ride in the parade through our neighborhood so residents can come out along the streets and thank you for your service. If you are a veteran and want to ride in the parade, or if you would be willing to drive a veteran in your convertible or open car, please contact Ann Marie Ricci at jamricci@consolidated.net or call 936-447-1336. We would love our 2023 parade to be twice as long as last year’s! Â
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Country Club entrance and will follow the same route as July 4th. All veterans will receive a free entrance to the Social Committee’s Chili Cook-off which goes from 11 to 2 that day.
Also, just a heads up to all concerned. The Civic Association’s Annual Halloween Carnival will be held at the Tennis Center on Halloween Night from 5-8 p.m. Many volunteers are needed for set-up, running the many games, cupcakes and cakes for the Cake Walk, and take-down at the end of the evening. It takes a village! Call Michelle Martin at 281-804-0147. You’ll have as much fun as the children!
