When Diane Davis gave her report as Food Pantry Chairperson for the April Sound Ladies Association Board meeting, she proudly announced that the food donations taken in on the three collection days last week reached a record high. She reported that her car was completely filled with all the canned goods and donations and almost $500 in cash collected to supplement what the Coat of Many Colors can buy. Yolanda Perez, Director of the Food Bank for Coat of Many Colors said it was the largest one-time donations they have received in a long time, if ever. Thank you to all who responded to the need and stepped up to bring your contributions.
On Monday a luncheon was served at the April Sound Church for all the new teachers in the Montgomery Independent School District. Many members of the Church were on hand to help with preparations and serving. Now that school starts on Thursday, Aug. 10, this is going to be a very busy week for everyone involved in the schools, parents, students, teachers, administrators, bus drivers, and all support staff members alike, as they prepare for the new school year.
Now that we have a greater number of buses entering and leaving April Sound, those who are heading off for work or coming home at peak bus times, might want to allow extra time in case you wind up behind a bus going or coming. Also, be sure to use appropriate caution near a stopped bus so that all the riders can safely enter or exit. We extend best wishes to all school personnel and students for a very safe and successful year ahead! By the way, if anyone is looking for volunteer opportunities, you could contact any one of our MISD schools, and I’m sure they would welcome you with a worthwhile way to volunteer your time.
Speaking of Back to School, there is going to be a “Back to School Bash” on Saturday, Aug. 12, in the afternoon at the Country Club. Members of the Club’s Social Committee have been asked to help with the bounce houses, rides and games. If you’re interested in bringing the kiddos up for this exciting afternoon, please check with the Club about timing and all the details.
The April Sound Men’s Club is having a Tour and Tasting Event at B-52 Brewery this coming Thursday, Aug. 10, starting at 4 p.m. All the men of April Sound who are in good standing with the Country Club are eligible to be a part of the Men’s Club, and at this event spouses and significant others are invited.
This would be a perfect opportunity for any men who aren’t able to attend the luncheons because of work or other responsibilities to attend an evening event and meet many of the members of the group. If you are interested in joining the Men’s Club and would like to attend, please contact ASMC Special Events Chairperson John Ricci at jamricci@consolidated.net or call 935-525-8959.
