Another issue of the April Sound POA Newsletter has gone to press this week. The newsletter is all about happenings that are relevant and important to residents of April Sound and is mailed to every residence in our neighborhood on or near the first of each month. This twenty-page newsletter does not just “fall into place” without the help of many volunteers. I serve as Editor of the newsletter, and my competent and talented committee consists of Doreen Grieve, Paul Knapp, Michelle Martin, Connie McLaurin, Pam Sackett, and Lori Whetstone. Each of these folks help with the planning, writing of articles, advertising sales, and editing. My husband John keeps track of all photos that are sent to the website (
newsletter@aprilsoundpoa.com.) Christine Harper of the Board of Trustees serves as our Board Liaison, and Ana Saravia, POA Office Administrator, assists us greatly. Our committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month to review the previous month’s issue and discuss plans for the upcoming month. Because of the need for time to compile all the text and photos, we have the fifth of each month as our deadline for information and advertising. As each article is received, edited and filed, photos are labeled and added. The text is sent to the committee for them to read and let me know all additions and edits. The entire text is then sent to JKGraphics for their graphic designers to begin work putting it all together. Proofs are returned. Changes and additions are made. Then, the committee gets the proof to go over and again make edits and suggestions. When all is completed to everyone’s best satisfaction, the go-ahead for printing is sent.

The newsletter strives to be completely self-sustaining for the publishing of each issue. That means our advertisers are so very important to the viability of our publication and so appreciated. Lori Whetstone keeps track of all the advertising for us, letting us know exactly which ads are to be run for each issue, and alerting us of when an advertiser needs to renew, so personal contact can be made. Michelle Martin heads up our advertising, but everyone tries to be on the watch for any possible new advertisers. Did you know that you can place a classified ad in our newsletter for just $35 per month? All advertising goes through Ana at the POA, (
anaw@aprilsoundpoa.com).

But, that’s not the end of it! When the newsletters are delivered to the POA Office near the end of the month, on a specified day at 8:30 a.m. a group I call “My Wonderful Labeling Ladies” arrives at the office to work on labeling. The labeled newsletters are kept in order according to mail routes and when the ladies finish, Jared from the POA takes all the mailing boxes filled with the almost 2800 newsletters to the Montgomery Post Office. Now, you know the “rest of the story!” When you sit down to read your August newsletter, maybe you’ll better understand all that made it possible! Send us your news!
