The Rotary Club of Magnolia served their community well with the construction of a playground for small children who are housed in the Isaiah 117 House in Willis. Â Isaiah 117 is a national organization who works with the Children’s Protective Service to house children who have been removed from a household. Â It serves as a welcoming environment for these children with the goal of reducing the trauma caused by the abrupt dislocation from their homes.
The Rotary Club of Magnolia carefully planned this playground in a rural setting in Montgomery County over the last several months. This involved a layout of the playground, establishing a budget and a work plan, fund raising, volunteer management, work scheduling, and much more. This project was funded by a matching grant from Rotary District 5910 and the Rotary Foundation. Â Volunteer help also came from the Magnolia United Methodist Church’s Lady’s Scout Troop, Montgomery County youth program, Lake Creek Reserve, those responding to JustServe.org, and friends of the Club.
This Program involved hundreds of hours of planning and implementation. Rotarians take the lead in implementing these Projects and collaborate with others to make dreams become a reality. This Rotary Club is just like the five Rotary Clubs in Montgomery County. We as business leaders whether active or retired find it fulfilling to serve our communities and beyond. With over 1.3 million members across the world, we know how to get things done.
The Rotary Club of The Woodlands is hosting a Celebration of Service on February 15th. One of the servants of our community Julie Martineau, will be honored at this Fete as this Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary. President Denton Florian is presiding this 50th year with special activities planned including a special edition 50th Anniversary Book celebrating the thousands of hours of service this Club has been providing to Montgomery County and beyond. Julie Martineau dreamed the big dream of providing free housing to families coming to Montgomery County’s Medical Community.
Our County’s Medical Community has evolved into one of the best in the Country with families coming for the world-class medical services in Montgomery County. Julie dreamed big and persuaded other Rotarians to make her dream a reality. The Woodlands Rotary House has provided free housing for families from outside Montgomery County seeking medical help. When a loved one in our Family is sick, the Family binds together to help their loved one find a cure.
When they arrive for medical assistance, the Family needs housing for the weeks it is in Montgomery County. The Woodlands Rotary House is that answer. Julie serves our Community in a variety of ways, including acting as the Executive Director for the Montgomery County Community Foundation. Julie is your typical Rotarian. She dreams big and makes her dreams a reality.
