Rotary clubs are designed to transition from year to year to provide a continuity of service. Rotary, like nonprofit organizations and commercial endeavors, does have a fiscal year which also coincides with what appears to be a seamless transition of leadership.

Rotary financial records and leadership have twelve months of operations which begins on the third quarter of each calendar year and runs through the end of the second quarter of each year. Advance planning and education are key components to provide seamless transitions from one Rotary year to the next. Rotary Club Officers and members of the Board of Directors are elected in December of each calendar year with those Officers going through a weekend of formal training and assistance in establishing planning for the coming year of fund-raising and service Projects.

For instance, the Rotary Club of Conroe is now planning its October fundraiser called Spirits of Texas which focuses on Texas wines and beers during Texas wine month which just happens to be near Halloween. These funds are being planned to be used for education in our community via school sponsorship by supporting school staff and students, student scholarships, Interact Clubs in high schools, book programs, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards in January, and so much more. Rotary Clubs honor those leaders who served during the leadership transitions and formally swear in the incoming Officers and members of the Board of Directors. Officers spend hours planning meetings and social events each week for their Rotary Clubs. This service pays off in dividends with strong community service clubs.

The beginning of summer is also a time when schools end, families go on vacations, traffic patterns on our streets change, and downtowns take on a different flair in decreased business activities. It is also a good time for transitions and new beginnings, along with reflections on the past. We honor our community servants, especially our leaders of service organizations like Rotary, Lions Club, Kiwanis, and Chambers of Commerce for their volunteerism and community heart. These organizations help to make our communities, our Country, and the world a better place. I hope you will extend your gratitude along with me to these organizations and their volunteers for the service they provide. We are in a better place as a result.
I wish all a safe, enjoyable summer as we transition into another season.
