The Rebel Joan Of Arc 2721 UDC Chapter representatives: MARY LEE MALEK, ANITA STEVENS, and DEBBIE AIELLO traveled to the City of Conroe Count House to make their important check donation presentation to the Friends of the Flag Foundation, at their Board Meeting. The RJOA representatives went to honor the FOFF Board for all they do for their community in Education of early Texas History. The Friends of The Flag Foundation Board, (FOFF), over-see the Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park, which is on the hill next to the Conroe Main Library along I-45. This special park began its journey in 2005 with the open patch of land next to the library, and the City of Conroe was approached with the idea to showcase Montgomery County as the Birthplace of the Lone Star Flag, mainly focusing on how Texas History unfolded. The goal was to feature and honor the Flag Replicas of important battle flags and their histories that led to Texas’ Independence!
On April 21, 2011, on the 175th Anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto, The Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park unfurled their 13 historical flags, along with
“The Texian” Statue, and the bronze bust of Dr. Charles B. Stewart- designer of the Lone Star Flag. The Park with their 13 Texas Flags and History Markers for each flag, quickly became a favorite photo stop for Texas Bluebonnets in the spring time and a walk through Texas History! This Board over sees their Annual Flag Replacement Ceremonies and Honors the “Sacred Soils” of the various Battles buried there from the different battle grounds of the fights for Texas Independence. In April, 2012, the park received the prestigious National Recognition and Park Association Southwest Regional Award for Outstanding Park/Facility Design. This FOFF Board has created an educational childrens/adults Activity Book for the story of the fight for Texas Independence which is freely handed out to schools, and the public, along with their Brochures which are also on site at the Texas Historical Flag Park. The FOFF Board does their education in Docent apparel and “period dress” of the early frontier and Texas Independence days, which also follows thru the period of the War Between the States. This organization is of great value to educating and protecting our early Texas History.
The Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter are proud contributors to the Friends of the Flag Foundation and would like to Thank their Board Members for their tremendous volunteer effort they head for not only Montgomery County, but their gift is for the entire State of Texas!
Their wonderful Activity Books have been shared and used all over the State by both children and adults alike. Something in there for everyone interested in Texas History.
