The Rebel Joan Of Arc 2721 Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, traveled to Anderson, Texas, to take part in the Sons of the Confederate Veterans festivities as All of Texas and Southerners from across the Nation celebrates “April is Confederate History Month”. Many Confederate Groups gathered in the Confederate Memorial Plaza in Anderson, and set up Booths and displays for all the participants and public to browse and enjoy, before and after the Ceremony. Hosting the Event was the Sons of Confederate Veterans: Grimes County Grays 924 Camp under the leadership of Commander Jody Ballard. Assisting the Grimes County Grays in participation was the Major General Patrick Cleburne’s 7th Texas Infantry 2182 Camp of Montgomery County, Commander Dave Underdown, and 1st Lieutenant Buddy Gurganus.
~ The Rebel Joan Of Arc 2721 UDC are proud supporters of both SCV Camps. ~
The Major Speaker was the Texas Commander for the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Michael Hurley, (seen in the photo), who traveled from Tyler, Texas, to be at the Event. The Bagpiper, Mr. William Jones left a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye as he walked down the brick sidewalk entry with inscriptions of Confederate Names, and left the Event playing Amazing Grace, as he walked down the street playing the soulful song.
The Confederate Organizations there were the Sons of Confederate Veterans- with several Camps attending, the Military Order of the Stars and Bars, Order of the Black Rose Society, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and more… The Anderson Town Mayor attended, Honorable Marc Benton, as well as many of his town’s people. It was a lovely day with all the Spring flowers in bloom, and the drive through the Texas Countryside was just – “So Texas Perfect”!
The Rebel Joan Of Arc Belles came in their Period Dresses for the occasion, and in their RJOA signature Personalized and Logo Monogramed beautiful Red Aprons, as seen in the picture with TX Commander Michael Hurley, who just had to stop and shop at the RJOA Booth! TX SCV Commander Michael Hurley purchased the beautiful Framed Embroidered Stars and Bars Battle Flag. The Rebel Joan Of Arc Ladies had all the Framed Confederate and Texas Flags there, but Commander Hurley naturally selected and purchased the Flag of his Sons of Confederate Veterans Organization. Also present for “Show or Sale” at the RJOA Booth was the Flag of the UDC, The First National Flag, as well as the Texas Bonnie Blue Flag.
The Belles were fully equipped to enjoy the day with their beautiful Burgandy Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter Banner, Canopy for shade, tables covered in old fashioned quilts and Lace Cloths for their wide variety of displays that contributed to HISTORY, EDUCATION, MEMORIAL, BENEVOLENT, and PATRIOTISM, along with their Spring Fund Raiser all done together that day. Special Thanks goes to RJOA President JENNY LEHR who organized the Belles for the Event, ALL the RJOA Belles who donated their new & old wares for all to browse, along with fine crystal, china, fun t-shirts and accessories, Fancy Decorative Pillows, and Ladies Hats, Handmade Victorian Bird Cage, children’s caps, musical notes pins, scented candles, Booklets with writing pens and stationary, Red leather journals and elegant writing pens with assorted inks, not to mention all the remembrances of a “Faith Filled” & Fun Easter!
Special recognitions goes to those RJOA who contributed to the abundant success of this special day: CYNTHIA CONNORS, KATHERINE TAGLIENTI, LAURA & RON McCRACKEN, DOUG & ELAINE COLLINGS, DARLA SHARER, KELLY HALL, CHRISSY BARTON, MARY LEE MALEK, EVELYN MILLER, ANITA STEVENS, DONNA SUMMERS, and JENNY LEHR.
The Rebel Joan Of Arc Chapter had a special Veterans table set up for issuing their personalized “RJOA Veterans Appreciation Certificates”, as the RJOA Belles gathered around each Veteran for their special Ceremony Presentation.
Just another special touch given to the Anderson visitors of that day.
