Conroe ISD trustees approved an agreement with The Woodlands township that will allow firefighters the ability to train for real-life situations involving school buses.
The agreement approved Tuesday allows the township to use four unusable buses for safety training, said Chris McCord, assistant superintendent of operations for CISD.
District mechanics have removed all usable parts from the buses, McCord said. Two of the buses were totaled, one burned, and the other two were decommissioned due to age.

McCord said the benefits for the district are four-fold in that the buses will be used by a local entity to “hone” their skills for any future incident involving school buses. Once the township completes the training, the township will take the buses to a recycling center and Conroe ISD will receive the scrap value of the buses.
Removing the buses, he said, opens needed space for new buses at the district’s bus facility in Conroe. Currently, the district has 113 parking spots for buses.
McCord said this is not the first time the district has provided decommissioned buses for fire departments. He said it is a process they will continue to use for fire departments across the county.
“I think it is amazing,” said Trustee Tiffany Nelson. “It is great they are able to do this, run drills and go through real-life situations.”
