New school campuses and expansions

Several school campuses are expected to open for the 2024-25 school year, including campuses in Montgomery, Magnolia and New Caney school districts.

Montgomery ISD

Montgomery ISD is expected to open Creekside Elementary School and complete the expansion of Lake Creek High School for the 2024-25 school year.

Creekside Elementary School is expected to be a 95,000-square-foot facility with a maximum capacity of 900 students. The school will be built northwest of Lake Creek High School on FM 2854. Construction on the district’s seventh elementary school began in May and will  help relieve overcrowding at the Keenan and Stewart Creek elementary campuses, officials said.

The high school’s expansion broke ground the same time as the elementary school and will accommodate a growth of 900 students at the school — for a total capacity of 2,500 students.

Both projects are part of the district’s $326 million bond package that passed in May 2022.

Magnolia ISD

Audubon Elementary School is expected to open for the 2024-25 school year and is a 105,000-square-foot, two-story facility in the Audubon community.

The facility is expected to have a capacity of 900 students and will help relieve overcrowding at three other campuses, according to the district’s website. Other campuses have reached 90 percent capacity, the district’s website states.

The new elementary campus was part of the district’s $228 million bond package that passed in November 2022.

New Caney ISD

New Caney ISD is expected to finish the remainder of its $200 million bond package from 2018 with the opening of Porter Elementary School’s new campus.

Construction began in November 2022 for the new campus on Loop 494 in Porter, about a quarter-mile south of its current location. The school is expected to open for the 2024-25 school year.

Projects included in the 2018 bond package were to increase capacity as the district continues to grow.

New Willis sports complex

A new Willis sports complex is expected to open early 2024 and will offer organizations space to train children and young adults in various programs.

Three organizations moving into The Core Sportsplex at 12110 Old Montgomery Road are Texas Diamonds, AirBorne Volleyball and the Eggz Flagg Football. Texas Diamonds and AirBorne have partnered to offer developmental volleyball training and competitive club teams to children ages 5 to 18.

There’s potential for additional indoor sports such as pickleball, dodgeball, adult volleyball, wrestling and jujitsu tournaments.

Lone Star Family Center Health Center Conroe expansion

Lone Star Family Health Center Conroe branch began construction in November on a 24,000-square foot expansion that will ensure services keep up with rapid growth.

The expansion will add to the current building at 605 S Conroe Medical Drive, allowing to accommodate for roughly 3,000 additional patients. The additional space will also allow for another clinical pod, with the health center having five clinical pods and a dental pod currently. The second floor will be renovated, the pharmacy will be expanded — adding a retail arm of the pharmacy and a dedicated mental health suite.

The expansion will also bring a second entrance to the building as well, and is expected to open in September 2024.

New shopping center coming to Porter

A new shopping center is coming to Porter in early 2024 to focus on the growing Latino community, developers said.

La Marketa de Porter, between Interstate 69 and the Grand Parkway, will be a three-building shopping center. The largest is a 32,000 square-foot building, anchored by a Teloloapan grocery store, a Houston-based chain.

Other businesses at the shopping center are a laundromat, an ice cream shop, a medical office, beauty services, insurance companies, a flower shop and leasing space for smaller businesses. There also will be an event center designed to accommodate weddings and large gatherings. Â
